I’ve been into different stuff around the internet ever since I discovered it. Basically, I started blogging around 2009. I’ve wanted to have my own website so bad. Back then, signing up to tumblr and blogger was the answers. At first, I just wanted to share whenever and whatever I wanted, my rants, sentiments, reblogging and posting fandoms. Now, browsing my old archives, I can see that I only have one post a month, worst, 1 post equals 1 year. I just thought, oh, well, I was young before, maybe I got caught up with whatever the trend is. I never thought that there is a serious side to blogging.
And while there are many articles/blog post written around the web about why you should blog, I still want to share to you my personal realization of how blogging changes me, that blogging and writing will always be my first love. Let’s start…
- You will get better at writing and thinking.
If you keep on writing every day, you will get better at writing every day, as well as thinking. It’s like recording your thoughts. I wanted to improve my English as it wasn’t my first language. I commit a lot of grammatical errors and grammar nazis might cringe of how I write. I consult to dictionaries and books every day because I’m not really confident with my English. I sometimes disregard the rules, the subject and verb agreement and such. My English is imperfect so that calls for the need of practice in order to reduce my imperfections.
- You will have your own voice
Because all of us have something to say to a certain topic. We have our own opinions. Owning a blog will give you a place to shout out your ideas, to say what you really feel, of course with reservations (Kuma-Karen!). You still need to be careful on what you share online. I still believe that blogging your thoughts on a certain topic is much better that to “microblog” it. Plus, it’s also a good way to de-stress.
- You will gain confidence (or more)
I’m always the awkward potato in the group. I didn’t have the guts to pass my works before to the school paper people. I always thought that there will be someone better than me (because I am just a random girl, 2 section away from the science/pilot class.) I feared rejection and was satisfied of just letting it rot in the cabinet of my study table (which my Dad secretly reads) BUT with blogging you will discover that you have this certain confidence that will be unleashed through blogging. You’ll gain confidence to post and realizes that your life and the way you are living right now is important no matter how simple or grandiose it is. Blogging will give you a boost of self-esteem to share your different views about everything under the sun and that you also have something to offer to everyone who reads your post.
- You will develop a healthy habit
Since blogging requires time and commitment, you will have to find ways to do it. You’ll be disciplined to do what you have committed to do. You’ll develop and learn how to be consistent (which every newbie bloggers find it hard). Blogging will help you discover new habits that have been sleeping inside you.
- It serves as your online diary
Remember the good old days when you write every good and bad thing to a notebook? I used to keep one but one day I discovered that my family is secretly reading the entries on it. I stop after that. Now, blogging is my sort of an open diary. Everyone can read with whatever you write and published. It also helps you keep track of the events and happenings because one day, I know, you’ll get back to your old post and ending up smiling at your past entries
- You will meet new people
Blogging gives you opportunity to intermingle with people with the same interest as you be it through comments, e-mails, or social media, you’ll be surprise that there are so many people out there who can relate to you more than your officemate. I can swear that some of the people I only met online are really awesome not only online but also offline when I finally personally meet them. Plus, the blogging community is the friendliest community online.
- You will inspire others
My life has changed ever since I started blogging, it started when I read a random blog that encourages you to be yourself and be positive. Then one day, I decided to start blogging again because if a certain blogger can inspire me to blog again, then I can inspire others too. Since blogs are usually free and open to the public, sharing things that can inspire others through your blog is as easy as eating a cake on a cheat day. It’s hitting two birds with one stone, it changes you as a blogger, you’ll also inspire your readers.
So, that’s about it! My personal reason why you should blog and start blogging. If you haven’t started blogging yet, it’s not yet too late and if you are already a blogger, share your reasons why you blog on the comments and let’s be friends 🙂
