Hey, fellow manga fan. Yeah, you wouldn’t be here if you are not a manga fan like me, right?

I have been a manga reader after graduating high school, around 6 or 7 years ago. I read mostly different types of genre, anything, as long as it is interesting and entertaining, of course, I would still prefer reading a manga with an exquisite art style but trust me, some manga with weird and not the conventional type of art that we like are sometimes the awesome and a good read.

The main reason, at first, why I read read manga are anime without proper ending/without a next season, you know that head-scratching feeling when you really want to know what’s next, right? So, I ask google-sensei which leads me to manga streaming sites and the rest is the clicking history! Of course, I support the original artist/mangaka by buying their works (if it’s available in my

So, I guess you are really looking for an awesome manga recommendation under the SHOUJO-ROMANCE genre, worry not, my friend. In this entry I present to you, my favorite shoujo manga[s] which are all completed already! I purposely included the links where you can buy the manga online, so, please do check/click it out. Let’s support the mangaka!

Without further ado, cha-chaaaaan, prepare your scrolls because this entry will be a long one!~ (In alphabetical order)

Yoshioka Futaba has  a few reasons why she wants to “reset” her image and life as a new high-school student. Because she’s cute, she was ostracized by her female friends in junior high, and because of a misunderstanding, she couldn’t get her feeling across to the one boy she has always liked, Tanaka-kun. Now in high school, she is determined to be as unladylike as possible so that her friends won’t be jealous of her. While living her life this way contentedly, she meets Tanaka-kun again, but he now goes under the name of Mabuchi Kou. He tells her that he felt the same way as she did when they were younger, but now things can never be the same again. Will Futaba be able to continue her love that never even started from three years ago?

Review/Thoughts: The feels manga. If you want to feel a roller coaster of feels, read this! It will make you feel so elated, touched, happy, sad, angry, etc. It so popular that it was adapted into a live action movie released last December 2014 and a 12-episode anime last Fall 2014. I really love this series because I think I was already following this before it gets so mainstream. Hahaha. Aside from the story and plot, the art is so outstanding, as expected from Io Sakisaka-sensie, who is the brainchild of Strobe Edge which is as good as Ao Haru Ride that was also adapted into a live-action movie.

The start of high school life. To the girls, that also meant the start of their love lives. For brand new first year student, Takahashi Nanami (Nana for short), it was no different… She happens to end up in the same class as the incredibly popular Yano Motoharu, who rumors say that two thirds of all the girls are guaranteed to fall in love with. But will that hold true for Nana, who says that if she had to choose between like or dislike, she’d say she dislikes him!?

I dare to say that everybody gets surprised when they find out that the author is a man,he is called Kyousuke Motomi and he is also known for another shoujo: Beast Master. How ever it’s really a shame that the translation is pretty slow for this manga, especially the lastest chapters which have revealed lots of things, but hey ,at least we get some of the chapters.

Synopsis: While visiting the National Library, junior-high students Miaka Yuuki and Yui Hongo are transported into the world of a mysterious book set in ancient China, “The Universe of The Four Gods.” Miaka suddenly finds herself with the responsibility of being the priestess of Suzaku, and must find all of her celestial warriors for the purpose of summoning Suzaku for three wishes. However, the enemy nation of the god Seiryuu has manipulated Yui into becoming the priestess of Seiryuu. As enemies, the former best friends begin their long struggle to summon their respective gods and obtain their wishes… [Written by MAL Rewrite] While Yui is returning a book in the library, Miaka drops a coin by the food machine (in the anime). When she reaches down for it, Suzaku appears before her and leads her into the Restricted Section. As the girls go through the books, Miaka stumbles across The Universe of the Four Gods and both girls start to read. In a flash of bright red light, the two girls are then sucked into the book-world, and are saved from assault by a man with (鬼, Oni?) written on his forehead, who is later revealed to be Tamahome. Just then, Yui is sucked back into the real world and she continues reading the book to help progress the story. Miaka, now stuck in the book, runs into a gang looking to sell her to a brothel. Tamahome steps in and helps her again, and in trying to repay him, gets them into a sticky situation with the Emperor’s men. They tried to escape the dungeon, only to come across the Emperor, Hotohori himself, who explains that they believe Miaka is the legendary Priestess of Suzaku (Suzaku no Miko), a girl from another world who will gather Konan’s Celestial Warriors and summon the phoenix god, Suzaku. Doing so will grant her the power to grant any three wishes. Miaka decides to accept the responsibility. Soon Miaka and company are setting out across Konan in search of her celestial warriors. The series describes their travels and their adventures along the way to summoning Suzaku, enduring various trials along the way, both quest-driven and personal. Miaka however has little knowledge of what happend to Yui. Yui, who was sucked into the book soon after helping Miaka escape it briefly, has assumed the mantle of Kutō (or “Qu Dong” in the manga)’s priestess of Seiryū, Suzaku no Miko’s deadly enemy.

Review/Thoughts: Well, well, well. The famous reverse harem of all times! I also love the anime but the manga is better (for me). Up until now, this series is still famous that a Stage Drama/Musical (?) is on the roll! Feast our eyes and minds for the live-action ikemen! I also recommend the sequel on this, the Genbu arc, now an ongoing manga!

Synopsis: Brilliant and overachieving, Misaki Ayuzawa is the President of the Student Council at Seika High School, formerly a boys’ school. Unfortunately, most of the students are still male and stuck in their slovenly habits, so man-hating Misaki really socks it to ’em in an attempt to make the school presentable to attract more female students. But what will she do when the sexiest boy in school finds out that after school, Misaki works in a maid cafe. — Also included in this manga is a short story called Toumei na Sekai in volume one. Training, studying, and even becoming the first female student council president of the school, Misaki has gained a reputation among the male students body as an uptight, boy-hating dictator and as a shining hope for the teachers and fellow female students. However, despite her tough-as-nails appearance, she secretly works part-time at a maid café in order to support her family. Unfortunately, her hard-earned reputation is threatened when the popular, attractive, and somewhat impassive Takumi Usui takes an interest in her after discovering her in a maid uniform after school.

Review/Thoughts: Yeah, no more further discussion! This manga is a must-read because the anime is not enough for an Usui fangirl! Hahaha. Seriously, the chapters from where the anime ended are so good and vital for the story! And the ending… *sighs*

Hi Vianna, thank you so much for the recommendations! Thanks to you I read Fushigi Yuugi and I loved it.

I had a question regarding Bokura ga Ita.I read your long review on it but I still need to ask. Didn’t you ever hate Yano?
I always tried to read that manga because it’s such a big hit, but Yano’s attachment to his past is kinda painful and I don’t know what’s so beautiful about a love story filled with so much emotional baggage. I wish I could read the manga completely without dropping it. I guess it gets me really emotional

    • Reply Vianna August 19, 2015 at 9:14 am

Hello, Rose. Thanks for dropping by to my blog. I consider Fushigi Yuugi now as a classic masterpiece 🙂 I lost my 1 copy of the raw manga because of Typhoon Haiyan (Cries at the corner)

Anyway, to tell you the truth, I did hate Yano… at first. He was really a prison of the past but his character made the story “We Were There”, even I don’t know why so many considered it a beautiful love story, I guess, we have different preferences. I am an emotional type of person too, so let’s both pat each others shoulders and read Bokura ga Ita to the end… ganbaremasu :))

your opinion is right cause From the beginning I watch Bokura Ga Ita(We Were There) I thought that it was some boring anime to watch but when I realize that this story is so amazing,I mean so amazing in drama.I cry and cry until episode 26 and continue it on the manga.I really love this anime.Thank you for saying your opinion on this story.Although Im not the owner of this website.I accidentally read your comment and I was surprise that i was so happy that someone is saying good opinions.Thank you very much.

Hi! I love your list. I’ve read quite a lot of these. Will definitely read the others you’ve mentioned.
Here’s a recomendation for you: try reading Akagami no Shirayukihime. The story and art is cute and the charachter developement is amazing. It’s not completed yet but it’s one of my favorite shoujos.

    • Reply Vianna August 19, 2015 at 3:19 pm

Hello, Alice! Thanks for your time reading this list! Enjoy reading the ones you haven’t read yet!

I’m actually following Akagami no Shirayukihime on the manga and anime. I included it on my Summer Anime 2015 Recommendations and high five because it is one of my favorite manga too 🙂

  • Reply Christanday August 19, 2015 at 9:45 pm

    Try read G.E (Good Ending)
I normally don’t go for a romance drama but when I read the first chapter and was hooked, can’t stop reading.. 😀

    • Reply Vianna August 20, 2015 at 9:38 am

Hi, Christanday! I’m gonna hunt that manga now! Thank you so much for the recommendation!

      • Reply Christanday August 20, 2015 at 12:40 pm

Yeah, I already finished last day..This manga is amazing. It took a few reads to really get into it. Great story, character development and growth and truly happy ending.

  • Reply Eyna August 25, 2015 at 7:16 pm

Hi! Thanks sooo much for this list. Great to know we have a lot in similar. Avid manga reader. 20-something. And Filipina. 😉

I was able to read some good mangas that have escaped by radar (due to being busy with work) because of your list. Salamats!

So I would like to recommend some of my favorite mangas which made me fall in love as well 🙂

    Oiran Girl
    – both from Hibiki Wataru. Anything from this mangaka is worth reading for the art alone. Bishounen Paradise Extreme~

    Last Game
    Shitsuji-sama no Okiniiri
    Dengeki Daisy
    – slow building romance but suuuper adorbs!!!

    Barajou no Kiss
    – fantasy manga (Anything from Shouto Aya usually is). Another Bishounen Paradise. 😉

Skip Beat! – you probably know about this. Very very slow romance build up but very good arcs. Especially those in the beginning.

Keishichou Tokuhanka 007 – Good story, good romance. Above average art.

    Best oneshots I’ve read:
Nonchan to Watashi (I fell in love with this one <3)

So there. 😀 I've read tons of shoujo mangas, some of them I loved but can't remember the titles now 🙁
By the way, one thing you'll probably notice if you read the mangas I've mentioned above is that the girls are not the traditional weak-sweet-gullible shoujo heroines. 'Cause I hate those types. I rarely finish a manga with those type of female leads. #justsharing

    Lastly, my 7-or-8-rating mangas:
    Full House Kiss
    Heart no Kuni no Alice

    • Reply Vianna August 27, 2015 at 4:49 pm

Hi, Miss Eyna! You are welcome, I’m glad that this list helps (pareho pala tayo, kababayan!) and thanks for reading this entry. I totally appreciate your efforts especially with commenting your recommendations. *Crying happy tears*

I’ve read and following: Last Game, Dengeki Daisy, Barajou no Kiss, Skip Beat! , Nonchan to Watashi. So yeah, you have a lot of awesome recommendation that I haven’t read yet, thank you so much. Gonna research and hunt them now 🙂

And I agree with you, I’m into heroines who are not the typical-damsel-in-distress-save-me-bishounen-hero-sama because It’s annoying at some point, (though I still read them for entertainment purposes. Haha)

      • Reply Eyna August 28, 2015 at 9:23 am

My pleasure to share those wonderful manga titles. 😉

Can’t believe I forgot to include PURE LOVE LABYRINTH as well. This one is super adorbs rin, with very cute/handsome characters. <3

Will wait for your other manga/anime-related entries. 😀

        • Reply Vianna August 28, 2015 at 3:57 pm

Gonna include that. Know what, I started reading Oiran Girl and I’m hooked. Definitely reading all your recommendations. Waaa! (Saan bundok ako at hindi ko alam ang mga titles na’yon) I’m just so happy you commented :))

          • Eyna September 3, 2015 at 2:31 pm

Glad I was able to return the favor! 😀 It was a great thing most of the titles I’ve remembered were already complete. When I started reading Oiran Girl, it only has 8 chapters at most and the wait for it’s monthly update is really agonizing! T.T At least when you found out about it, it’s already finished and you can read to your heart’s content. 😉

Nasaktuhan ko lang din yang mga yan. Mga panahong bangenge ako sa thesis at pagbabasa lang ng manga (at pagtitig sa mga bishounen) ang pangkalma ko sa utak ko. Hahaha. 😛

I’m so glad you like Herione Shikkaku! I love the manga so much it hurts :’-) The plot was a simple school romance shoujo manga, but somehow this one stuck out to me a lot. The author made the heroine very real compared to a lot of the shoujo manga you find.

    -Wild Ones
    -Mixed Vegetables
-The Gentleman’s Alliance Cross (I loved this in High School. Artwork is beautiful.)

Hi, thanks for making this list!
There are some titles I was at first unsure about but this really helped me out in decided whether to read them!
Here are some recommendations for some absolutely must romance manga that you really should read. Literally they are the best!
    Akuma De Sourou
    Beauty is the Beast
Boarding house of Hunks – it’s a korean manga, but seriously, very good!
    Lovely Complex
Hana Yori Dango – this one is quite long and the art style at the beginning is hard to love, but stick with it and it gets seriously better!
    Hana Kimi
    Kyou Koi Wo Hajimemasu
    Crazy for you

These are just some recommendations. Apologies if you have already posted any of these, I tend to skin past to the titles I don’t recognise. But yeah, I really highly recommend these manga’s. They are all beautiful and special in their own way 😀

Hi Vianna.. Super thanks for this recommendations it really helped me discover something new and amazing…

Ongoing stories is so bitin and that’s why as much as possible I only read completed manga.. I’m also at my 20’s and I’m so into anime and manga ever since (mostly shojo, sports and yaoi) I think I already read 75% of the mangas on this list and before leaving this comment I finished those that I haven’t read yet..

My most favorite discovery with this is Shinobi Life I think it’s quite underrated because I haven’t seen this on other recommendation list but its great story not only about love but also family and friendship….

    • Reply Vianna March 16, 2016 at 12:17 pm

Thank you, Nikee for visiting! Glad to know we have the same interest. *fan girls screams* Yes, Shinobi Life is underrated but I really love how the mangaka relay the story. 🙂 (Internal screaming over Yaoi stuff)

Hi there, some are available in the Philippines, some are only available online (which I don’t recommend reading but for the sake of manga love, you can read the online manga streaming sites on your own risk) I buy my mangas via ebay/amazon and in the Philippiness, I buy officially translated manga on Eiwa Manga Store

Hi miss sunny! I am a sucker of childhood friends turns into lovers. And so I was looking for a manga (I forgot the title) which is they are childhood friends as they grew up they got used to be together unknowingly they started to fall to each other and just act it all like it was just normal because they’re friends. Something like that hahaha please answer me back ASAP. Thank you!

    • Reply Nana September 14, 2016 at 8:04 am

Hi, there. I sense the urgency but based on the plot you have written, there’s a lot of stories with the same situation as like that, I think it’s a one shot manga. I’ve read somewhat like that. Let me look on to my files and get back to you soon 🙂

does anyone know a manga about a red-haired girl that, when whe was young, she went to a party (wealthy fmaily), where whe gets lost. A boy finds her, and they start talking. Then their parents come (from both kids), and, as the girls parents saw that she wasn’t afraid of him (she never speaks to anyone), they decide with the boy’s parents that they should get married. The kids grow up as good friends, but when they started high school, he decides he should be popular, and, considering that the girl is quite plain and boring, decides to spend his time with other girls. At the beggining she doesn’t pay attention to it, but one day she finds him having sex with another girl at the gym. She is so shocked, she skips school for a few days. Then, some weeks later, comes a gorgeous girl to the school, and the boy recognizes her as his friend, but her attitude is cold. Then comes a time lapse, and the story continues with both of them as adults, and their parents arrange a meeting for the marriage. He becomes an idol, and blames himself for the change of her friend.

this manga has a facebook page crazy trying to find out the name D:

    • Reply Nana September 14, 2016 at 7:22 am

Thank you, Tanya. I tend to avoid some smut too. I feel the need to put warnings because, I could remember the first time I read a smut, I didn’t know it was a smut type of shoujo manga already and I was like, ohhh. So yeah, I’ll be posting soon. There’s been a lot of manga I’ve read for the past year and I want to write all my feels about it and post it on my blog. I just need time, you know, with the work and life and hobbies clashing together. Time management is the key.

Hey I enjoyed reading your reviews, as I have too read most of these manga and have been reading manga a long time … I’m interested on your thoughts of three manga I really enjoyed just recently..

    1) lovely complex – I still can’t get enough of this manga I’m reading it through for the third time!

    2) yumemiru taiyou – I love this story.

    3) ookami shoujo to kuro ouji

    • Reply Nana February 3, 2017 at 7:23 pm

Oh, I’m quite happy that you wanna know my thoughts about this manga[s] first,

      1. Lovely Complex-I haven’t read the manga yet but I sooooooo love the anime. Their dou is the best, just hilarious, never fail to put a smile on my face.
      2. Yumemiru Taiyou- It’s on my ‘To-Read’ list however, whenever I see a lot of heroes and there’s a reverse harem vibe, I kinda have doubts, reading it, but I’m really tempted now. Huhu
      3. Ookami Shouko to Kuro Ouki – yeees, yess, the ending is just lovely right? such feels :))

      • Reply Tj91 February 3, 2017 at 7:47 pm

You won’t be disappointed with lovely complex manga, it’s even funnier than the anime :’)

You’re right the ending was just perfect. I was a little worried for a moment but it’s perfectly wrapped up :’)

I won’t give anything away but I dont think judging by your other recommendations you’ll be disappointed with yumemiru taiyou, I loved it. It has a good wrapped up ending if that’s what you’re worried about and each character’s story, I feel was well put across :’)

Have you also by any chance read Akuma de sourou ( the devil does exist) it’s also well worth the read

Good to know people still enjoy manga
        Tj :’)
