Art will always be for everyone and for someone like me who really appreciates different art forms, going to a local art exhibit is my way of showing my love even if I’m not really good at it.
I went to Sabin Resort Hotel yesterday to visit Colorburst, an art exhibition organized by Azul Art Link showcasing homegrown artist namely, Jayson Frame Ariño, Rocelo Montesclaros, Benjun Pore and Hareol Tero. It formally opened last Friday, April 8, 2016.
I decided to see this exhibit not only because I love art but I really want to support local artist. In my own observation, the art scene in Ormoc has been inactive, err, not really, but I guess, lack of exposure. I dragged a clueless friend with me. When I first walked into the exhibit (of course, I took a photo) I was greeted by a handful of vibrant paintings. What took my interest is every artist has masterpieces with connection to pineapple.
Trivia: Queen Pineapple, Ormoc’s most famous produce and a top pick for pasalubong (gifts for friends at home). Savor its unparalleled sweetness with juicy slices fresh from the pineapple plantations north of the city in Kananga.
Going to the exhibit, I got to look at the pieces differently. I can really see the passion in every piece. It was also my honor to meet one of the artists, Jayson Frame Ariño, whom we had a small chat with. I learned a lot from him. He mentioned that it was his first time to exhibit his masterpieces publicly. He also cited that exposure to art was a big factor why he is doing what he love right now. Growing in a family of artist, he said that it’s not always in the genes but with the determination and gaining experience is the key if you really want to pursue this kind of craft.
It was also fun to know that he was a high school senpai (senior). I bet he was always on the poster making contest in school events every month.
I also asked him if what he wants the people to remember him with his art, his answer struck me as it was also the reason why I choose my domain name–to be happy!
It would be really great to meet the other three artists, perhaps on their next exhibits and hoping that it will be soon!
Below are the artist profiles:
All in all, I enjoyed the exhibit; it serves its purpose to show off the lively summer spirit and the festive nature of the Filipino culture. Going to this exhibit showed me how large the potential our local artist has. The exhibit is open to the public and will run until April 18, 2016. It opens from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at Sabin Resort Hotel, Lobby area.
The artworks in the exhibition will be on sale. Let’s support our local artist! I hope this exhibit will not be a miss opportunity to other Ormocanons!
