Technology plays a vital role right now in our fast-paced world. I remember during our class on Economics, my Professor said that technological advancement and economic growth are related. Just take a look at Japan right now.
Technology adoption and transformation play a vital role in boosting the competitiveness of local business and industries, specifically the burgeoning MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises sector. This is the clear message of Acer Philippines’ TECHonomy Forum.
Acer Philippines and Microsoft Philippines brought TECHonomy to Cebu last Monday for its second stop after a successful launch Manila recently.
“MSMEs have significantly contributed to the country’s economy by creating jobs and opportunities at the grassroots level,” said Carren Garcia, Acer Philippines senior commercial sales manager, in a discussion at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel.
According to the latest data from the Department of Trade and Industry, Central Visayas has the fourth most numbers in MSMEs in the Philippines with more than 50,000 enterprises. It provides jobs for more than 200,000 workers according to the Philippine Senate.
Garcia also said the TECHonomy Forum aims to support Cebu’s thriving economy by offering a value-adding thought leadership platform.
The Great Equalizer
“Technology has leveled the playing field for everyone,” said Gibson Lin, global chief trainer for Acer Cloud Technology. “The best businesses are now the ones that actively utilize innovations like cloud and internet-of-things to gain customer insights and streamline operations.”
Acer Philippines said that with the looming adoption of automation and data sciences as an industry in the coming years, digital transformation has become an urgent necessity for businesses.
According to Gibson Lin, “The best businesses are now the ones which actively utilize innovations like cloud and Internet of Things to gain customer insights and streamline operations, among others.”
“Our thrust is to enable businesses to unlock new possibilities through the infusion of software and services. And through TECHonomy Forum, we are expecting to usher the digital transformation of Cebu’s local businesses,” Lin added.
TECHonomy Forum 2017 is the first forum of its kind in the country that tackles the role of technology in economics. The Cebu leg of this event was supported by When in Manila and Big Picture Productions.
