UP Otakufest IX: Pandemonium

May 6, 2016

Cebu’s best and largest annual cosplay and hobbies convention based in the University of the Philippines Cebu ended successfully again this year with a parade of villains! The 2016 event, entitled “UP Otakufest IX: Pandemonium” held last February 20, 2016 at UP Cebu Grounds featured cosplay competition, Japanese singing contest, original character design contest, digital photography, card battle, merchants, Asian Pop dance contest, awesome guest and over the top con-goer experience.

Last year, I promised myself to attend UP Otakufest the following year. I was really hesitant to go; it would take a lot of money (since I’m a 2 to 4 hours boat ride away from Cebu) and time. But finally, I could cross out one of the things I want to do on my bucketlist this year! I’m really glad I went to Otakufest this year, thanks to Saitama-sensei (Sir Windee and family) for taking in a potato for showing me how awesome the cosplay community in Cebu and for letting me tag along for my first ever OFEST experience.

Thank you, Sir Windee and Miss Cris!

Awesome skits from the cosplay competition. I swear, I could have join the Japanese singing contest but nah, Cebuanos are real good singers. Cebu crowd is really cooperative.

Hello there, Lord Death!

I hope the stalls/booths have more spaces in between because seriously, I can’t go through as choose as much as I want on the display and merchandise (or I lacked ninja moves and I am not fully equip on this battle, I mean, I am very overwhelmed with the crowd). It was also amazing meeting fellow otakus I only knew online. It’s been ages since I’ve been surrounded with like-minded humans.

UP Grounds on that day was invaded by villain. I took a lot of selfie, I’m too shy to post all of it. The host are really into the event too.

Warning! Shameless selfies ahead 🙂

I know you, I walked with you once upon a nightmare!

Feeling close ako! hahaha

I wore a wig at first but then damn, it’s hot. Hehehe

Deadpool VS Saitama

The strongest hero!

Overall, I really enjoyed it. I hate to compare but I really love the crowd in Cebu events. I wished I could transport some of the crowds’ energy here and spread more otaku love to my fellow geeks here who are hiding behind their closet.

Clearly, UP Otakufest is one of the best annual geek event in Cebu, everyone is already looking forward for next year UP Otakufest.
